Drift Gyros
Futaba GYD550
BEST OF THE BEST
This is the gyro I personally use and recommend the most. Yes - it is also the 2nd most expensive one - but it is just that good. There is a lot of concern/mis-information about it online as well. No - you do not need a Futaba servo and controller to use it. I have paired this with many different servos and different controllers - all with good results. No - you do not need to operate it via SBUS for it to work. Yes - if you do pair it with a Futaba 7PX or 10PX, it will unlock more tuning options, but I have installed it in "simple" mode in many cars with good results.
ReveD Revox
SOLID ALTERNATIVE
I struggle to recommend this gyro to many folks - but it makes this list for two reasons: it is VERY simple and the performance is solid. When this gyro first came out, it was priced more budget-friendly...but then has quickly seen price increases that put it actually HIGHER than the GYD550 as I write this. Boo on ReveD for that. If you have tried Futaba gyros and do not like the feel of them, then this is a solid alternative. If you also don't like the complicated setup of other gyros, this is a good alternative. But honestly - for most folks, I recommend sticking to the Futaba.
Onsiki Daruma
BUDGET FRIENDLY
This is the most budget-friendly gyro on the list. When I tested it, the performance surprised me. I do believe the Futaba is still a much better overall choice - but if you just can't spend that extra $50, I would go with this Daruma.
Yokomo DP302-V4
THE OG
2018. This gyro was released in 2018. That is FOREVER in electronics years. It was a breakthrough when it was released and has become a staple of the RC drift world. There are so many people with familiarity with this gyro, that it makes it a smart move for newb. It is also rather budget friendly - with a price right near the Daruma. This gyro is really showing it's age though. Driving it back-to-back with the other gyros on this list clearly shows the gap in technology advancement and how this has been left behind. If you are new and want something ANYONE will be able to help you get running right - this is still an OK solution as many folks continue to run them to this day.
